Triple-entre from BenQ-Siemens

IT HAS been a year since BenQ acquired Siemens mobile phone division, so it was only a matter of time before we would be seeing the BenQ-Siemens brand cellphones as we have on the jerseys of Real Madrid football players.

For us, that time has finally arrived as BenQ-Siemens recently launched three models here, namely the EF81 (RM1,399), E61 (RM799) and S88 (RM1,099).

According to the company, the phone models are named in a convention similar to Mercedes Benz automobiles its S-class phones are basically luxury models, while E-class models come with at least one exclusive feature that is currently unique in the cellphone market.

Thin is in

The EF81 is touted as an ultra-slim 3G phone that is forged with high-quality materials that give this clamshell an elegant finish.

Review: Nokia's Smart Looking 6233 Business Phone

The Nokia 6233 is the successor to the very popular 6230i. It retains the same classic bar form factor, but ups the ante in the specifications department. Sporting a 2 megapixel camera, a QVGA (320x240 pixel) resolution display, and stereo speakers, the Nokia 6233 is set to take the market by storm. It is a dual mode phone, featuring WCDMA/GSM operation, and tri-band GSM coverage (GSM 900/1800/1900MHz and WCDMA 2100MHz networks). The 6233 is capable of switching automatically between bands and modes. This review will be about the Nokia 6233's GSM capabilities, as I still have no access to 3G networks.

Physical Aspects

The 6233 is aimed at business users. There are no fancy designs, no swiveling keypads, nothing that stands out at all. It is designed to look serious, and with a casing made of stainless steel and soft rubber compound, the Nokia 6233 is definitely top quality.

Push e-mail for RAZR V3 users

Motorola RAZR V3 users can now check, receive, send and delete e-mails in an instant rather than having to dial into their mobile phone network each time. Rogers Wireless and Motorola Canada have announced the availability of the very first Java-based push e-mail service for a GSM handset. By downloading the MyMail application over the air, business-centric users will be able to stay in touch with the office/friends etc. on the move. Powered by Visto Mobile, MyMail is available on the Motorola RAZR V3 with a Rogers Wireless Data Service Plan (DSP). Data service plans begin at $15 a month and are available in packages up to $60 a month. More info from here.

GPS, Maps and Talking Directions on Your Cell Phone

By now, I do believe nearly everyone understands how neato GPS is. And there are dedicated devices for use in cars which help drivers get around town. Cingular has gotten together with TeleNav Inc. to provide customers with GPS features on devices such as the Cingular 8125 Pocket PC, the Palm Treo 650; and the GPS-enabled HP iPAQ hw6500 Series Mobile Communicator. In fact the launch is today! (Happy Halloween!) You can walk around or drive with your cell phone and still get those maps and directions you so Desperately need! And have all the features you want from a cell phone. I guess it's like having a TriQuarter and a Communicator in one device. Sort of. .
