3G LG comes to 3
3's been doing a good job recently of getting some decent sized (by which we mean small) 3G phones onto its network. The LG U8120 is its latest addition, an upgraded version of LG's U8110 video mobile that comes with some additional features. The LG8120 has had a bit of a redesign, but it's the same dimensions and weight, measuring 96 x 50 x 23mm, and weighing 126g. The memory capacity has been increased, with 32MB of space now available for storing videos, music and photos.

Orange 3G launch imminent
Big day for Orange tomorrow with the UK launch of its 3G service for consumers. The service wad due to be up and running earlier in the year, but problems with the handsets delayed its delivery. Quite what Orange will major on remains to be seen. 3G for consumers seems to be a technology without a killer application. As Three has discovered person to person video calling hasn't chimed with the UK population, and unfortunately for Orange, its rivals seem have to snapped up the best sports video content. It'll be interesting also to see which handset Orange leads with. It appears that the LG U8110 which has been a huge hit for Three, will be one of its key phones along with a model from Motorola. Three's smallest 3G phone
Last night 3G network Three finally confirmed the worst kept secret in the mobile phone industry that it is to offer LG phones on its network. As regular TD readers will know we are huge fans of the first mobile it will offer the LG U8110. The handset which features all Three's headline facilities like person to person video calling and video downloads is one of the most compact 3G handset so far. It is significantly smaller and lighter than all the other models in Three's portfolio bar the non-video calling Nokia 7600 handset and looks and feels much more like a GPRS phone than a 3G one. It is available from 49. There will be a full review of the phone in The Guardian and here next week. Until then suffice to say that with the LG phone and the excellent Nokia 7600, it seems at last that Three has finally overcome its handset issues.
