Say hello to your new portable music player

Many music fans, aiming to combine their cell phone and iPods, looked forward to the release a year ago of the ROKR, the music candy-bar-shaped phone made by Motorola Inc. with the popular iTunes music interface from Apple Computer.

The ROKR didn't exactly rock out. Some disappointed reviewers concluded the ROKR was a CROKR, though Moto claims some sales success. The problem: People were expecting an iPod, or a RAZR, or maybe a combination of both. The ROKR, sold by Cingular Wireless, was none of the above.

Finally, a year later, Motorola and Apple are making good. Cingular has just come out with the first RAZR, the ultra-thin flip phone, with iTunes, the music navigator used on iPods that revolutionized digital music. And Schaumburg-based Motorola also has come out with another music flip phone, the MOTOKRZR K1M, available from Verizon Wireless, Alltel and soon other carriers.

Push e-mail for RAZR V3 users

Motorola RAZR V3 users can now check, receive, send and delete e-mails in an instant rather than having to dial into their mobile phone network each time. Rogers Wireless and Motorola Canada have announced the availability of the very first Java-based push e-mail service for a GSM handset. By downloading the MyMail application over the air, business-centric users will be able to stay in touch with the office/friends etc. on the move. Powered by Visto Mobile, MyMail is available on the Motorola RAZR V3 with a Rogers Wireless Data Service Plan (DSP). Motorola Announces Intent to Develop Java ME Stack Under Apache ...

iTunes hard disk phone coming next year

We don't know how it got the scoop but huge French newspaper Le Figaro has got some pretty interesting stuff about the upcoming iTunes/Motorola phone. Some of the stuff we know - that it is likely to be a version of the E398 Motorola handset (in white if the pic is right), that it will have 512MB of flash storage and that it will be compatible with tracks downloaded form the iTunes online music store.

The interesting bits are that one US carrier has signed up for the phone - the implication being that, as we have long suspected, no European networks have rushed forward to take the phone. More importantly that a hard disk version of the phone will be available next year. Given that Hitachi, which may or many not produce the hard disks for the iPod, has a one inch eight Gigabyte hard disk lined up for phones which should be released about that time, it all makes perfect sense.

Sony Ericsson W850i Review

Just as Nokia have decided to enter the flip-phone market, rivals Sony have decided that the time is right to produce a slide phone that is as practical as it is pretty. So what exactly is so special about Sony Ericssons decision to enter the corner of the market dominated by Samsung so long?

Well, first of all, everything. Samsungs D500 started off the craze initially (a phone still amazingly popular even though it was discontinued at Christmas) and apart from the recent D900, no Samsung phone has come close to being as popular.

One of Samsungs main appeals is the onboard memory of its handsets. The D500 had around 80MB, the E900 has the same and the D900 has 70MB the latter two are also expandable with microSD cards (512MB being available for as little as 20 in some places).CCTV
