Trade in your old mobile phone for Nectar points

Apparently there are 66 million unwanted mobile handsets in the UK, with phones being replaced on average every 18 months. But if you have a Nectar card, you can trade your old handsets in and buy something else. Like a new phone perhaps?

The new scheme is called mobile2points and is in conjunction with Greener Solutions, specialists in mobile phone recycling. You can visit the Nectar website to work out how much your phone will make in points, but as an example, an old Motorola V3 Razr is worth 3,000 Nectar points.

Once you have confirmed the trade-in online, a pre-paid envelope will be sent to you and points will be added to your nectar account in 28 days. Nectar website

Shiny Icon of the Year Award

And so we come to Shiny Shiny's main award for the evening: the Icon of the Year Award. The idea behind this one was not to just give a prize to the best gadget of the year (Tech Digest did that for us), but to look for a product that has pushed things forward in terms of design and usability: a gadget that's offered something that little bit different to the crowd and set new standards. An obvious contender was the Pedometer. This really has been the gadget phenomenon of the year - with TV shows, magazine articles and governement guidelines all dedicated to telling us just how fat and lazy we are. But in the end, it was the Motorola V3 Razr that won the day. The super super slim mobile has broken new boundaries in design and has done it with style. Meanwhile the all-conquering iPod mini was our runner up.

Hooded attackers followed victims

A TEENAGE girl was punched and her friend kicked in the face when they were attacked by two hoodies.

The victims, and a 27-year-old man, were walking home from a party in Windmill Hill, Runcorn, when they were attacked at 1am on Sunday. Two thugs wearing hooded sweatshirts stopped the friends near Phoenix Park and demanded they hand over cash and mobile phones. When they refused, the girl was punched in the face. Her 17-year-old male friend stepped in but was knocked to the ground and kicked in the head. The group handed over a £20 note and the girl's silver Motorola Razr V3 phone.

Motorola Razr V3x (Pink)

The good: The Motorola Razr V3x has a stylish and sturdy design, decent call quality, and a generous feature set that offers two digital cameras with a flash, stereo Bluetooth, and a speakerphone, as well as and support for (European) 3G networks.

The bad: The Motorola Razr V3x isn't compatible with U.S. 3G networks. Also, the volume is a tad low, the internal memory is limited, and its memory card is in an inconvenient location.

The bottom line: Despite some minor complaints, the Motorola Razr V3x is top of the line for the Razr family. It's just too bad it isn't for use in the United States.

Just because you may be tired of the Razr, that doesn't mean Motorola is bored of it as well. In fact, Moto has done all it can to capitalize on the success of its famous thin phone by introducing a gallery of new versions for almost every niche.
