Samsung's mega pixel camera phone slider
Must admit to not being too taken with Samsung's first mega pixel camera phone the SGH-D415. Although it has a brilliant screen and that ever so fashionable pull down flaps as pioneered by Siemens, it was short of a few features and its camera wasn't quite as good as it rivals.
The company is obviously listening as it has just launched the SGH-D500, an enhanced version of the D415 that rights a few of those wrongs. The handset, which is finished in black, features a mega pixel camera with an integrated flash and a 7xz digital zoom. Images it takes displayed on its 176x220 pixel TFT LCD unit in 262,000 colours.
Other features include Bluetooth, an MP3/AAC player and storage of 80MB - significantly more than rival handsets. There is however no storage card slot.
Review: Skinny and Smooth LG KG320 Fashion Phone
The LG KG320 forms the bar-style entry into LG's Black Label series of slim and sleek mobile phones. Measuring only 9.9mm (0.39") thick, the KG320 certainly looks the part, and with a casing made out of a mix of stainless steel and plastic, the phone oozes class and quality. This candy bar style phone is equipped with a 1.3 megapixel camera, along with 128MB of onboard memory, making it a real beauty with brains. The KG320 is a triband (GSM 900/1800/1900MHz) phone, and features GPRS connectivity.
MobileBurn would like to thank LG Malaysia for loaning us a pre-production unit for review.
Physical Aspects
Our review unit looked battered - it had scratches, and even a dent on the battery cover. However, the phone was still pretty solid, and did not exhibit any squeaks or creaks.
Motorola Announces Intent to Develop Java ME Stack Under Apache ...
LIBERTYVILLE, Ill., Oct. 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In an effort to further reinforce its commitment to the open source community and to reduce Java fragmentation, Motorola (NYSE: MOT - News) today announced an invitation to the broader Java ME(TM) ecosystem to establish a complete Java Micro Edition (Java ME) software stack for the mobile industry, under the Apache License Version 2.0. Motorola will work to align its future Java ME-based developments with Apache's model of licensing and open governance in order to help promote a unified mobile Java platform. This unified platform leads to lower overall development and testing costs, a reduction in time-to-market, and the creation of a larger market opportunity for developers, by helping drive the promise of 'Write Once, Run Everywhere' applications.
Dialed In: Nokia Brings the Keyboard Back
Every now and then, Nokia launches a phone that flies under the radar and develops a small but loyal following. Such was the case with the company's 6800 series of phones, which included both the 6820 and 6822. Launched a few years back, these compact phones were ideal for text messaging and e-mail, thanks in large part to their flip-out keyboards--a novel concept at the time. Sure, the phones looked dorky with the keyboard flipped out (as this picture indicates), but the design was very handy.
Unfortunately, 6800 series phones are no longer available from Nokia or from carriers. But now Nokia has upgraded the series with the similarly styled, business-centric Nokia E70.
Nokia L'Amour Line Hits the Spot
I know you're probably all fashioned out with the L'Amour line Nokia introduced last week Nokia For Girls (Or Very Fashionable Men) but here's some hands on advice on the new phones as well. First of all, you'll be happy to know that they have more going for them than their pretty faces. Even with all the extra crap (mirrored surfaces, fake leather, fur-lined cases) you're really getting a good, solid mobile phone that happens to look pretty. I happen to like the keyless dialing of the 7380, though you have to get used to it for sure and many others just aren't ready to accept it. But it is true that the display isn't very big, though the camera is pretty kickass at 2.0 megapixels. The 7370 is small and nice to the touch and the swivel 7270 is extremely easy to open and close. So though they may seem garish, all three of these phones pretty much hit a homer in terms of being what they should be a damn good cellphone.
