3GSM: Samsung's five mobile marvels

Samsung has unveiled an incredible 20 handsets at this year's 3GSM event in Barcelona, including five pocket-friendly mobiles.

In addition to its Ultra Edition range of slim phones and its Ultra Special range of smartphones, Samsung has somehow found the time to squeeze in five impressive looking new mobiles with the E590, E740, E830, E840 and P110.

The E590 is a smart white candy bar measuring 94x42x13.5mm andfeaturing a 3 megapixel camera with autofocus, multi-format music and video support, and stereo Bluetooth.

The E740 is a slider phone, measuring 97x46x16.8mm and similar in size and design to the top-selling D600 from two years back. It carries a 2 megapixel camera, multi-format music and video support and stereo Bluetooth.

Shiny at 3GSM: The best of the new Samsung phones

One of the best, although some cynical bloggers would also say one of the worst, things about Samsung is they always launch so many phones. 3GSM has been no different with around a dozen or so new handsets taking their bow. The downside of this is that some times some phones get lost in the rush.

So to keep things simple here's a quick trawl through the best of the new Samsung breed, along with our comments and, when appropriate, links to videos.

Samsung F700 - In our books this the one to watch for. Samsung has delivered a large touch screen phone (it has a 2.78 inch display) with its own pull out QWERTY keypad for when you need to do some proper work. Other than its screen it has very impressive looking five mega pixel camera, complete with auto focus, a decent looking web browser and the souped up version of HSDPA which in theory can run up to seven Mbps.

02 arrives in Kuwait

KUWAIT: O2, the leading provider of premium mobile data devices in the Asia Pacific, announced its intentions to grow in the Kuwaiti market and bring its hallmark O2 experience to Kuwait. This was announced at the press conference held at the Eureka pavilion last Saturday at the Info Connect 2007 exhibition held at the Mishref International Fair Grounds. This aggressive move into Kuwait follows the company's successful entry into other GCC markets, namely the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain last year. In a swift six months since its launch, O2 has already garnered 80 per cent retail coverage in some of these markets. O2 has also appointed Square Distribution Co., an integrated subsidiary of Zeid Al-Kazemi Group, as its authorised distributor in Kuwait. This new strategic partnership is expected to help the company grow its brand share and product availability in Kuwait through a wide distribution network covering prominent retail chains, hypermarkets, and IT stores. Square Distribution is a leading distributor of IT devices in Kuwait, focused on delivering premium products and services catering to a discerning market of customers. O2 is currently offering a range of innovative PDA phones in the GCC, including the Xda Atom, the Xda Atom Exec and the Xda Stealth.

Teck Heads: Phones of the Future ..HDLN:

MOBILE phone industry bods have been meeting in Barcelona this week for the 3GSM expo, and Samsung have unveiled their answer to Apple's iPhone - and it's drop-dead gorgeous.

The Ultra Smart F700 boasts a full touch screen plus keypad and uses the 7.2 Mbps High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) network which will allow users to download an MP3 in a shade over 4 seconds.

There's a full HTML internet browser and email on board, plus a stunning 5 megapixel camera with auto focus, and Bluetooth. However, Samsung weren't the only ones unwrapping their shiny new kit in Catalonia.
