Samsung unveils new Ultra Smart F700

With the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona happening in less than a week, Samsung is clearly looking to get an early start on things with the recent announcement of its Ultra Smart F700 mobile phone.

The F700 is the first Ultra phone to feature a full touchscreen display with slide-out keypad that's very much similar to QWERTY-enabled PDA-phones such as the Dopod 838 Pro and O2 Xda Zinc. It is also equipped with an integrated music and video player, High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA), Bluetooth and VibeTonz technology. Its onboard 5-megapixel sensor makes it the highest-resolution camera-phone we've seen so far from the Samsung Ultra series.

Handsets in the Ultra series have traditionally been known for their superslim form factors. The F700 is no exception with its 16.4mm girth which makes it one of the slimmest touchscreen phones with slide-out QWERTY keypads.

O2 Launches New 3G Phones

The first is the Xda Zinc, a PDA-style phone aimed at the power user who requires email, instant messaging and SMS on-the-go.

O2 has added a slide-out Qwerty keyboard to this latest incarnation of the device, which when extended automatically switches the display to landscape mode to allow easier use of email, SMS and Microsoft Office documents.

It runs on the Windows Mobile 5.0 platform and is equipped with 128MB of memory. It also features direct push technology for email, Bluetooth and wireless LAN 802.11b and g, as well as 3G functionality.

The second phone is the O2 Graphite, which is suited to users who don't need such a powerful phone as the Zinc.

Despite weighing in at just over 100g, it packs a powerful punch, O2 claims. It too comes with 128MB of Flash memory, direct push technology and the latest Microsoft Office programs.

Tech Takes Over WAC Lead

LOGAN, Utah Senior guard Shan Moore scored a game-high 17 points to lead four players in double figures as Louisiana Tech downed Utah State 72-57 Saturday night at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. With the victory and Boise State 81-70 overtime loss at Nevada earlier in the day, Tech (16-12, 11-4) took over sole possession of first place in the Western Athletic Conference standings, game ahead of the Broncos. proud of our team tonight, said Tech head coach Chris Long. This was a team that had won four of their last five; there was a lot of emotion here tonight being senior night. They are tough to defend. We did n't play perfectly but we played well enough to win. The game was tight throughout the first 13 minutes of play as the contest was tied 10 different times without Utah State (11-15, 7-7) ever taking the lead.
