Pantech unveils five handsets in Latin America

Pantech, a handset manufacturer headquartered in South Korea, has launched five new handsets for the mobile phone market in Latin America.

The five handsets will be made available through Telcel, a mobile service operator in Latin America. Pantech, which established a dedicated subsidiary in Mexico last year, plans to increase its share of the local market by expanding the range of Pantech models on offer to Mexican consumers.

Among the handsets to be introduced to the Mexican market is the PG-6200, the company's fingerprint recognition mobile phone. Key features include a 2 megapixel camera supporting video clip recording and viewing, MP3 player functionality and 20Mb of user memory to store images and music files.

The other new handsets include the PG-1310V, PG-1610, PG-3810 and PG-1810 phones.

Nokia 6131

With so many phones saturating the market, youve got to have the X-factor to stand out. Does the Nokia 6131 possess the flair to thrive?

Nokia and the clamshell have always endured an uneasy relationship. The Finnish giant has never really flourished with the flip phone approach, instead gaining considerably more success with the candybar and slider forms. With perhaps the exception of the furry fashionista, the 7200, past clamshell efforts like the ergonomically challenged 6260 and the staid but functional 6101 havent really set the world alight. So were always intrigued, and also a little wary, when Nokia marches out another flip phone. Thankfully, its latest flame, the mid-range 6131, sees the manufacturer getting it right at last.

The 6131 sports some curious design features that makes for an attractive phone.

Vodafone first network to offer its own push email solution

In what is very likely to be the start of a trend Vodafone has become the first phone network to offers its customers a push email solution. Starting from next month small business subscribers to its network, along with smartphone crazed consumers, will be pushed those all important messages in real time courtesy of a system from Visto.

Interestingly the service offers push email on a wide range of handset including both Symbian as well as Windows Mobile handsets. The full list includes the Sony Ericsson P900i, Nokia 9300, Nokia 6680, Vodafone V1620, Vodafone VPA Compact, HP hw 6510 and Motorola MPx 220. Vodafone is making it fairly cheap for consumers too with the tariff running at 12.77 per month for the service or less if a user spends more than 34 per month on voice calls.

At Nokia, Profits Trump Phone Styles

A QUARTER OF AN INCH may be all that it's taken to turn shares of Nokia (NOK), the world's largest cellphone maker, from a high-flyer into something resembling a value stock.

That's the difference in thickness between Nokia's chunky 8800, one of its slimmer phones, and the ultra-svelt Slvr phone from Motorola (MOT), the world's second-largest manufacturer.

Investors, worried that Nokia's clunky phones can't withstand Moto's style lead, are valuing the Finnish giant way below Moto, assigning its stock a forward price-to-earnings multiple of 13x next year's expected earnings per share -- below not only Moto's 18x, but also the ...

Pantech invades Mexico with army of phones

Be not threatened, dear Mexicans, these Korean invaders mean you no harm. Instead, Pantech is here bearing gifts in the form of five sexy new cell phones. Telcel is the route that they are taking, exclusively offering these handsets to the mobile operator (at least in Mexico). This only makes sense, considering that Telcel is the largest cell service provider in Latin America. Joining the brigade are the PG-6200, PG-1310V, PG-1610, PG-3810, and PG-1810. Honored at the iF Design Awards for excellence and innovation in the design of cellular phones, the PG-6200 slider comes loaded with a 2 megapixel camera, integrated MP3 player, and a fingerprint reader. Pantech is projecting sales of 1.3 million units in Mexico this year. With this renewed firepower of fresh clamshells and sliders, they should be in good position to accomplish that goal.
