Police plea on phone mugging

POLICE are making a new appeal for witnesses after a teenage girl was grabbed by the throat by a man who stole a mobile phone.

The 16-year-old was at the junction of Alderman's Green Road and Almond Tree Avenue in Alderman's Green, Coventry, with her 15-year-old friend at 8.45pm on Christmas Day. A white man got out of a maroon van with yellow lettering, and put the 16-year-old in a headlock before taking the Samsung D500 mobile phone. DC Matt Jones, of Stoney Stanton Road police station said: "It was very frightening for the girls and we would ask anyone with information to come forward." The man is described as in his 30s, 5ft 6in or 5ft 7in and of medium build.

Kodak links to cell pictures

Eastman Kodak Co. has signed a deal with a software company designed to make it easier for consumers to upload, print and share pictures taken on camera phones.

The deal goes to the heart of a big conundrum in imaging: camera phone users take billions of pictures annually, but only a small fraction of those are ever printed a point at which they can generate revenue for companies such as Kodak.

Kodak and Exclaim of West Trenton, N.J., have introduced Kodak Mobile Link, a cellular program that allows camera phone users to send their photos to the Kodak Gallery Web site with the click of one button. From the site, www.kodakgallery.com, they can be printed, shared, stored, or reproduced on any number of items.

"We firmly believe that consumers need to be able to exercise choice," said David Westendorf, senior director of worldwide partnerships at Kodak Gallery.

Atias to probe missing phone info on Web

Communications Minister Ariel Atias is opening an immediate investigation into the conduct of communications companies over a lack of a free directory assistance service on the Internet.

The ministry stated: "The companies are dragging their feet in everything connected to the preparation of Internet information sites, which will provide services for free. But, at the same time and amazingly, they met the schedules for setting up the 1344 information service [see box], where they receive money for the service."

Buy Local, Talk Global: 7-Eleven(R) Introduces ReVoS PrepaidMobile International Calling Service With Unlimited Calls ...

For consumers with friends, relatives and business associates outside our borders, international calling just got a lot cheaper. Available exclusively at participating 7-Eleven® stores, the new ReVoS PrepaidMobile calling service is now available and provides unlimited calls to 42 countries including destinations in Canada, Mexico, Europe and China for less than $20 per month. ReVoS is short for "Revolutionary Voice Service" and is a product of RNK Communications.

Sold as an overlay to existing prepaid and post-paid telephone service plans, ReVoS PrepaidMobile works with all U.S. cellular service providers and requires no additional equipment, no personal identification numbers (PINs) to dial after activation, and has no day or time restrictions. Customers can recharge their ReVoS PrepaidMobile cards at any of 7-Eleven, Inc.'s company- and franchisee-operated convenience stores.

'2-1-1' expansion marked with celebration

RINCON - United Way of the Coastal Empire's 2-1-1 program, which recently extended its service area to Liberty County, hosted its first annual "2-1-1 Day Celebration" on Feb. 18.

The goal of the celebration was to educate the community on the benefits of using 2-1-1 and create awareness of the new service in Liberty County.

The local celebration coincided with "National 2-1-1 Day," which is lobbying to have 2-1-1 available in all 50 states.

About 400,000 people within the Coastal Empire's 2-1-1 coverage area can access their services by dialing 2-1-1 from a home phone.

If Congress enacts the Calling for 2-1-1 Act, Georgia could receive funding to expand these services across the state. This would provide area citizens with a streamlined process of receiving health and human service information, as well as providing the opportunity to donate goods and volunteer services by using one number (2-1-1).
