Samsung F520 (SGH-F520)
We often criticize Samsung for being stuck in a rut when it comes to design - but the Samsung SGH-F520 is certainly a very different looking handset from most.
The most obvious feature is the very large 3" touch-sensitive display with an impressive 480x272 pixel resolution that works in landscape or portrait mode. But it's not just a touchscreen phone, the Samsung F520 comes with a very impressive (and quite possibly unique) two-way slider mechanism which offers number keys in one direction and QWERTY keyboard when slid out the other way.
At first glance, the Samsung F520 is very similar to the Apple iPhone or LG PRADA LE850, and it is sized mid way between the two. However, the Samsung has a significantly different feature set underneath.
The Samsung F520 is a 3G phone with HSDPA support, so it is capable of broadband download speeds in areas with 3.5G coverage.

Samsung Ultra Smart F520 Slides Two Ways
Can't decide if you want a conventional phone or one with a QWERTY keyboard? Get the best of both worlds with the Samsung Ultra Edition Ultra Smart F520. Not to be confused with the slide one-way i520 smartphone, the F520 has something a little extra. The phone can slide up like a conventional phone to reveal a five way navigator and those ten digits you need to dial a call, but if you slide it on the side (like an HTC smartphone), you get a full slate of QWERTYness for ease of text entry. To sprinkle some extra sugar on top of this already sweet package, the Ultra Smart F520 also comes with a 3.3-inch touchscreen display. Naturally, the web browsing on this device is pretty good too, considering that it rocks HSDPA high-speed connectivity. Rounding out the spec sheet is a microSD expansion slot, a 3 megapixel camera, and full HTML browsing.
Samsung SGH-F520 Live Photo Gallery
Samsung's SGH-F520 has to be one of the most unusual handsets we spied upon at the 3GSM show in Barcelona. It makes use of a unique dual-action slider mechanism that allows the device to be used as a landscape mode QWERTY phone as well as a more typical looking alphanumeric keypad equipped slider. On top of that, as if it weren't interesting enough, lies the large touchscreen display and the finger based user interface that runs on it.
The keypad and keyboard designs take some getting used to, and neither of them are truly optimal. You can see that, when in QWERTY mode, the keys are split into left and right halves. When in the more traditional keypad mode, the d-pad is placed in an unusual position: to the right of the keypad. But if you want to have your cake and eat it, too, this might just be workable solution to get what you want.
Samsung's SGH-F520 has dual-sliding awesomeness
Just when you think you're too jaded to get excited by a new cell phone design, someone comes along and slaps you in the face with innovation. This morning, Samsung slapped me hard with the SGH-F520. It's the little(?) brother of the kickass SGH-F700 that we showed you last week, but in my opinion it's way cooler. The sweetest thing is obviously the dual-sliding design. Slide the face up, and a number pad and directional pad appear. Slide it to the side, and you get a full QWERTY keyboard. Oh, and the screen is a touchscreen, if you want a third way to control it. It's innovative yet simple and immediately intuitive. That's why it sucks extra hard this time to learn that this is heading straight for Korea, with no plans to release it stateside.
