Samsung P110

Samsung P110 (SGH-P110)

We often criticise Samsung for producing almost identical slider phones.. but the SGH-P110 demonstrates that they are perfectly capable of coming up with something radically different and interesting to look at.

There are two striking features on the Samsung P110 - one is the multiway hinge that allows the display to be moved into just about any orientation you might need, and the second is the two-way keyboard which provides standard numeric functions one way and a QWERTY keypad the other way. This is not quite the first time we've seen this arrangement, the short-lived Motorola MPx did something a little similar, but it is an unusual approach and it certainly makes the SGH-P110 stand out from the crowd.

At the time of going to press, the full technical specifications of the Samsung P110 are now known, but we do know that it has a 2.1" 176x220 pixel switching display, a basic VGA resolution camera, a media player and stereo Bluetooth, 25MB of internal memory, and instant messaging support.

Samsung SGH P110 twisting mobile phone

The press photos of the new Samsung P110 are pretty amazing although its hard to see whether this is a flip phone, a clamshell or something totally different.

Features on the P110 include a digital camera, broadband speed internet connection as well as a 2.1 inch colour screen and a cool automatic switching display to make sure it always faces the right direction.

Interestingly Samsung have included a full QWERTY keyboard so texting should be very quick and easy. The keyboard will also be useful for the instant messenger application which allows you to chat, MSN style, over the internet.

Also included are an MP3 and video player as well as Bluetooth and a USB port to transfer songs from your PC.

Measuring 91x47x19.5mm and including 25MB built in memory the P110 will be a top selling PAYG phone this year.

3GSM: Samsung's five mobile marvels

Samsung has unveiled an incredible 20 handsets at this year's 3GSM event in Barcelona, including five pocket-friendly mobiles.

In addition to its Ultra Edition range of slim phones and its Ultra Special range of smartphones, Samsung has somehow found the time to squeeze in five impressive looking new mobiles with the E590, E740, E830, E840 and P110.

The E590 is a smart white candy bar measuring 94x42x13.5mm andfeaturing a 3 megapixel camera with autofocus, multi-format music and video support, and stereo Bluetooth.

The E740 is a slider phone, measuring 97x46x16.8mm and similar in size and design to the top-selling D600 from two years back. It carries a 2 megapixel camera, multi-format music and video support and stereo Bluetooth.

Samsung SGH-P110 Flips, Rotates, Comes Up Short

Everyone's favorite Korean cell phone maker is making waves over in Barcelona with this innovative cell phone. The SGH-P110 has an automatic switching display that can flip up like a regular clamshell, but it can also rotate around to give you a 90-degree viewing angle. Howdy do, Samsung, howdy do. It's got a full QWERTY keyboard so that you'll have no problem with text messages and mobile email, and the Stereo Bluetooth A2DP lets you jam to your music without wires. Strangely though, there is no memory card slot in sight, and the on-board camera is a measly VGA unit. Why toss such sub-par features into a revolutionary new design? Following in the mediocrity is a lack of 3G or WiFi, opting only for tri-band (900/1800/1900) GSM/GPRS with EDGE. Oh, and that music player won't do you much good, considering that the P110 has only got 25MB of user memory.
